Showcase: Mara Millich
Mara Millich is a Detroit based photographer who works with bands, an area of the medium that I think is of particular popularity and importance in Detroit. Given the surplus of great music in the city, and the role it plays in the culture, I think its important to recognize. You can find more of her work, here.

Saturday- Last Show @ White Wall!!!
Saturday will be the last show at White Wall Gallery, I'm excited for the work that's being shown- and can't wait for everyone to see it and wish the space goodbye!! It's been a whole load of fun, and has given some really talented photographers a chance to show their work- the ultimate goal of the blog and the space in the first place....
Saturday will also be a Halloween party- so dress appropriately!

Tonight- Darfur
Darfur-Darfur: A Photographic Essay
DARFUR-DARFUR is a traveling exhibit that provides a visual education about the richly multi-cultural region of Sudan’s western region of Darfur, while exposing the magnitude of the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The digitally- projected, changing images, along with other scheduled events and programs, are certain to raise awareness and empower the visitors to mobilize and voice their concern.
The exhibit, edited by J. Matthew Jacob and curated by Leslie Thomas, presents photographs taken in Darfur, Sudan, by former U.S. Marine Brian Steidle/Polaris and photojournalists Lynsey Addario, Mark Brecke, Helene Caux, Ron Haviv/VII, Paolo Pellegrin/Magnum, Ryan Spencer Reed, and Michal Ronnen Safdie.
The Detroit Public Library is leading the City of Detroit in dialogue to the need for the immediate resolution of conflict and injustice in Darfur.

Apologies for the Delay
I wanted to apologize to everyone for the delay in postings and show pictures. Getting ready for all of these shows has taken a lot of time, and I'm now getting ready for the final show on October 27th, in the process of moving. November will be a re-booting of the blog, back to normal with postings and showcases. Check back in before then however, I will have moments to post new stuff here and there.
Again, my sincerest apologies, I have not forgotten!

Ed Panar
Recent Cranbrook Grad, Ed Panar has a new book out and was also featured on JM Colberg's Conscientous Blog today....I found some work under the"More" section on Bloomfield Hills that I find interesting. It seems like in many of these images the only life is foliage, trees, bushes etc. These big mansions are really quite lifeless in the way he chooses to photograph them...really interesting. www.edpanar.com

Great Fashion Photography out of Detroit
I'm a fashion photography enthusiast and die-hard, and will argue the merits of the genre to the death. Detroit Fashion Pages has been doing some great things out of the city in the fashion world, and have put together a really great shoot in the Eastern Market for their latest cover story with photographer Alvin Haas. Find the full story here..

More @ the Times
I found another article, about the upcoming exhibition @ the Museum of Contemporary Art - Chicago, exploring the relationship between art / artists and rock n roll. Includes a reference to Detroit native Mike Kelley and his noise band, Destroy All Monsters, Iggy, MC5, etc.
Good Stuff @ NY Times
There is a great article over at the NY Times, about Harry Callahan and his wife, Eleanor. Includes some Detroit references.
In honor of the Polaroid Show
That's opening @ White Wall on Saturday (7-10 pm, see flyer a couple of posts below), I figured I'd post some of photographer Grant Hamilton's work, who I recently read about in JPEG Magazine. You can find more of Hamilton's minimalist Polaroid's at his site.
Karolina Karlic- 20 x 200
Jen Bekman is continuing on with her contemporary / young photography / photographers world domination, and brings us yet another really genius idea. Her latest project, 20 x 200, makes prints from artists, such as Detroit native Karolina Karlic's image above, available for $20. Other print sizes are available at prices up to 2000. Check it out here.... From now on, no one should have bad art on their walls.
